As the Witches Gather

We are finding each other again

What is a witch or a warlock?
Someone who sees more than the physical reality around us.
Someone who knows that there is magic in the world.
Someone who knows that time and space are only
Figments of our imagination.

Why were they feared?
Because others couldn’t see the world they saw.
Others were caught in their own spell of deception
That made them believe that there was no magic in the world
That placed them as victims in a world with no chance of escape.

Why did they live alone?
Because they couldn’t pretend to have the conversations that others were having.
They couldn’t pretend the world was that small and flat.
So they moved to the fringes,
Kept to themselves,
And shared with those who also could see.

Today, we are finding each other.
We recognize each other by our beautiful faces.
We recognize the look in our eyes
That knows the truth.

We gather in the fringes
Recognizing something wonderful together
That we have known each other before.
We have been persecuted before for telling the truth.
We know what this feels like.

Yet there is such joy in the gathering
The friendship, the fury, and the cackling.
Sometimes we sit in silence
Just happy to be together.
Sometimes we rail at the world
And then take a deep breath together.

We can’t explain it out loud.
But inside we know
What an incredible gift to have found each other
After all this time.
